What is Semi-Private Personal Training?

Every one is different - your workouts should honor that.

Semi-Private Personal Training is a unique hybrid between private personal training and group classes.

Each person receives their own, fully customized program, but conducts their workouts in a small group training environment (between 1-4 people at a time).

It is NOT a class, boot camp, or any other "copy and paste" fitness program.

How does Semi-Private Personal Training work?

Every workout is planned and programmed in advanced according to your goals, your fitness level, and your workout schedule/availability.

  • Each workout is posted to your personal account on Train Heroic (an online training app).

Because each workout is designed for the individual, rather than the group like in standard group fitness, you can work at your own pace.

  • There's no pressure to keep up with others or feel intimidated!

You get to experience the social element of working out in a group but benefit even more from the close attention of me - and at a fraction of typical personal training costs!

  • You basically share the cost of a normal hour of personal training.

I float around my private gym as everyone works out, providing coaching, instruction and help as needed.

  • Some days you may need more or less of my attention, which is why this option is so much more flexible than one-on-one and group fitness. I get to keep my eye on you but not have to stare at you for every single rep!

What happens BEFORE the first session?

Once you fill out a contact form, I'll reach out to schedule an initial phone meeting/consultation. We'll talk about your goals, training needs, training availability. I'll also explain in a bit more detail my style of training and training philosophy.

Other questions I usually like to ask include:

  • Any current and/or past injuries?

  • What is your current fitness level?

  • What does your fitness background look like? (ie previous experience with sports, fitness classes, personal trainers, etc)

  • What are your favorite and least favorite exercises?

  • Do you have any specific "performance goals"? (ie to do 5 push-ups in a row, or a pull-up, or a handstand, etc)

  • What would you say are your biggest obstacles currently holding you back from achieving your goals?

If everything sounds and feels good, we'll book you in for your first session!

What happens DURING the first session?

Rather than a first session baptism by fire style most group fitness studios like to use, I slow things WAYYY down.

  1. I'll walk you through the space and where you can put your things.

  2. I'll introduce you to the other women working out at the same time as you (though I'm also happy to discuss a more intimate on-on-one first session experience if you're feeling a bit nervous about things).

  3. I'll take you through a gentle warm-up (though nothing we'll do is a "test", I will be watching how your body moves - where things seem to be an issue re mobility and stability).

  4. I'll go over the coaching cues you'll often hear me use when we train together and what I mean when I say them.

  5. I'll then spend most of the session going over pelvic floor, posture, and basic movement patterns (I'll finish our hour with a spicy little "burnout" because I want you to see how good those post-workout endorphins feel!)

But more than anything...

Our first session is an opportunity for me to see you MOVE!

Because my focus is on individualized programs, watching your body move in action is more important for me than a more traditional postural analysis or movement screening most other personal trainers use. I want to get to know you AND your body so we can safely build a foundation before cranking things up to the next level.

Think of our first session as a "no sweat intro". Literally!

  • If you DON'T like your first session... it's free. 100% on me and no hard feelings at all. I'll also be more than happy to recommend you to another trainer or fitness studio that may be a better fit.

  • If you DO like your first session... it's free too! Hell yeah! The next step will be getting you set up for our one month "dating period".

What is the"One Month Date"?

Although there is no contract you're required to sign when working with me, I ask that we start by committing to a one month "dating period".

Working with a trainer in a more intimate setting like Semi-Private Personal Training  is just as intimate as finding the right therapist or even partner, so it's important to get a feel for one another and see if we'll be a good fit together - aka the "One Month Date"!

The first few sessions are arguably some of the most important on any fitness journey. Not only do I get to know how your body moves better, but this is where we lay the foundation that we will continue to build upon - not just in our time with one another, but for the rest of your entire fitness journey as well.

Generally, our first few sessions together won't be super active or sweaty - though that sure as hell doesn't mean they'll be easy! Instead, we'll start off pretty easy and gradually pick up the pace once we better understand your capabilities and limitations.

I want every woman I work with to feel seen, heard, and supported. Most of us are totally detached from our bodies - and we don't even know it! I don't just want to equip you with awareness, tools, and know-how... I want to empower you to better understand, respect and love yourself. ALL of yourself.

Overall, my approach is less of a coach and more of a teacher. This is why I ask for a big commitment at the beginning. I'm going to pour everything I have into helping you, and this helps allow you to do the same for yourself too. After the initial dating month, there are 3 Semi-Private Training Package options to choose from.

ONE MONTH DATE | $400 flat rate

- 2 x sessions per week (for 4 Weeks)

- "Homework" exercises to work on in between sessions

-Extra hands-on focus and coaching.

*Depending on our initial "no sweat intro", I may decide that you may not need this dating period, and instead we'll go straight to one of the 3 Semi-Private Personal Training Packages instead.

What App do you use for programs?

Once you complete the One Month Date and then decide which Semi-Private Personal Training Package best suits you, I'll set you up with your own personal Trainer Heroic account. This is where I'll write and post your personalized, custom programs.

This app is amazing and allows us to track your progress in AND out of the gym!

The beauty of me being with you every workout is always being able to adjust things as needed - and the same goes with your program! I'll write it out for you in advance, but we adjust and modify as needed on a daily basis.

Unlike a lot of other fitness programs, I do not put much (if any) emphasis on metrics like calorie burn, body weight, body measurements, or in-body scans. Instead, I'll help educate you on "total volume" in workouts, and have you only track your total daily steps (if applicable with your goals). And this app allows us to do just that!

Do you offer online programming options?

Virtual programming really blew up in the fitness world over the last few years. #thankscovid

While I used to offer online programming as a service, I'll be totally honest... I just don't enjoy it. My strength is in human connection and interaction, plus, it is incredibly difficult to work on safe form virtually.

That being said, if we HAVE worked together in person before, I am more than happy to discuss online programming options with you. I've done this with a few clients who moved out of state.

10

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation policy is to cancel at least 24 hours before scheduled session.

Look - life happens.

One of my biggest pet peeves when I worked in corporate fitness was how ruthless they'd be over their cancellation policies. That's why I try to be as flexible as possible with mine:

  • If you cancel at least 12 hours before your scheduled session, there is no fee.

  • If you cancel within the hour of your scheduled session, you "lose" that session.

Now all that being said, sometimes things are going to come up that are out of our control (especially with COVID still creeping around), so as long as you communicate with me, a vast majority of the time I won't even make you lose that session.

However, if you are habitually late cancelling on me or no-showing, I will enforce the cancellation policy.
